Media Terminology continued...

The Four F's:
These are the main elements individuals tend to stick to and not deviate away from when regarding magazines. the majority of magazines will be criticised if they don't stick to these conventions. The four F's include:

  • Function: are what the magazines objections are. For example, to inform the audiences about a new upcoming band or any tours, concerts, festivals that their specific audience may be interested in going to see. Overall, this is the advertising of particular events that are happening or about to happen in the music industry. Depending when the magazine released, depends on how they change their different function or area.
  • Formula: is the particular elements that make up a magazine. An example of this would be the amount of sell lines placed on the front page, on the contents page and throughout the whole magazine. Not only is it about the content included but the use of visual imagery such as pictures and what affect they might have on the reader.
  • Frame: as the margins and gutters for printing.
  • Format: is the presentation of the magazine, so whether they stick to specific house styles and how they relate to the target audience.
